The Sriwijaya Air flight was a Boeing 737-500 and it has held a strong safety record for many years.

Sadly, there has been no clear answer for the Sriwijaya Air Flight 182 crash. However, the conditions in which the flight took place was not ideal as the plane took off amid a heavy monsoon season rain, following a bad weather delay.

There were no immediate clues on what caused the plane to plummet out of the blue. A majority of air accidents are caused by a cocktail of factors that can take months to establish, safety experts say. This plane has plunged more than 10,000 feet in less than a minute, according to the tracking site Flightradar24.

Indonesia, is made up of many little islands within their nation and is heavily dependent on air travel. Indonesia has had an upsetting number of aviation accidents under its belt but Sriwijaya Air had kept a squeaky clean record of no accidents since it began operations in 2003.
