1. Dataran Merdeka

The iconic Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur is the number 1 hotspot for Malaysians to usher in the New Year. Every year thousands of Malaysians gather there on New Year's Eve to watch a huge fireworks display on New Year’s Eve. This year will be an exception as Kuala Lumpur is still under CMCO regulations meaning that public events are still not allowed. However, don't forget to catch their virtual event, aptly themed, ‘Wargakota Terus Bertahan’. The event will feature live performances by Orkestra Kuala Lumpur and also a special appearance by DJ Isma Halil.
2. Resort World Genting

Resort World Genting (RWG) will always be the countdown spot for people who want to rave with the crowds but can't stand the tropical heat of Malaysia. Genting fans won't only be missing the cooling weather but also the famous fireworks they put out every New Year’s Eve. Although there’s no New Year countdown for this year, RWG will still have various offers and attractions available for visitors at the resort!
3. The Curve

The Curve has been commemorating the New Year’s celebrations for 14 years now, but the record stops at 14 as there will be no grand celebrations this year. The Curve has been famously known for their longest and dazzling fireworks display in Selangor. The mall’s decision to not host any New Year’s event or fireworks is to discourage large crowds to gather this year.
4. IPC Shopping Centre

The IPC Shopping Centre will also not engage in any fireworks display this year but they have something else in store for their mall goers which they say might actually be better than standing outside watching sparks fly. IPC has prepared an online New Year’s celebration called, The IPC LIVE Shopping Fiesta. It is a 12 hour long Facebook Livestream where viewers will be able to shop and enjoy special deals, and entertainment by renowned international and local artists.
Though it may be difficult breaking long running traditions, this year came with many unexpected twists and turns. The most important thing is to welcome the New Year with your loved ones and remember to stay safe always and stay home.
